入学与成绩要求

入学条件
An applicant will normally be considered for admission if they have achieved an educational level equivalent to an honours degree. Applicants should have a proven interest in documentary films and a keen desire to make documentary films. You should know what kinds of documentary interest you and why you have an ambition to deepen your involvement in documentary film study and production. Successful applicants have generally made their own videos and have some experience of filming, but we can also consider candidates without a production background who demonstrate exceptional film ideas and directing potential. We often have applications from mid-career photographers or producers in related fields. Your experience is assessed as a learning process and tutors will evaluate that experience for currency, validity, quality and sufficiency. Your educational level may be demonstrated by: Honours degree; Possession of equivalent qualifications; Prior experiential learning, the outcome of which can be demonstrated to be equivalent to formal qualifications otherwise required; Or a combination of formal qualifications and experiential learning which, taken together, can be demonstrated to be equivalent to formal qualifications otherwise required. APEL (Accreditation of Prior Learning) Applicants who do not meet these course entry requirements may still be considered in exceptional cases. The course team will consider each application that demonstrates additional strengths and alternative evidence. This might, for example, be demonstrated by: Related academic or work experience The quality of the personal statement A strong academic or other professional reference OR a combination of these factors Each application will be considered on its own merit but we cannot guarantee an offer in each case. Language requirements All classes are conducted in English. If English is not your first language, we strongly recommend you let us know your English language test score in your application. If you have booked a test or are awaiting your results, please indicate this in your application. When asked to upload a CV as part of your application, please include any information about your English test score. IELTS 7.0 (or equivalent) is required, with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the four skills. If your first language is not English, you can check you have achieved the correct IELTS level in English on the Language Requirements page . 本科背景要求
Recruitment and Admissions You should have a keen interest in documentary films and a keen desire to make your own documentary films. A portfolio is not essential but many applicants send links to documentary work they have already made. You should know what kinds of documentary interest you and why you have an ambition to deepen your involvement in documentary film study and production. A first degree is desirable but not essential. If you do not have the required qualifications, but do have professional experience, you may be eligible to gain credit for previous learning and experience through the Accreditation of Prior and Experiential Learning (APEL) i.e. professional experience or a combination of courses and work experience. Your experience is assessed as a learning process and tutors will evaluate that experience for currency, validity, quality and sufficiency. An awareness of and interest in current developments in documentary film is expected. Knowledge of film and media history and theory is not a requirement but we expect candidates to be interested in studying such questions. Language requirements (International/EU) IELTS 7.0 (or equivalent) is required. Portfolio Advice Your application should be accompanied by an original documentary film idea (essential) and a short showreel (if available) of existing documentary film production work, with a clear note of your role in each production. We ask for weblinks to the work that you would like to be considered, uploading if necessary. (We prefer you do not submit work on DVD/jump drive/CDs.) The showreel is a way for us to assess your particular understanding of the documentary form, and we cannot advise you on specific content. It is important to recognise that these ideas will inevitably develop and change across the year of study on the course and only serve to inform your application at this stage.

STRUCTURE Your personal statement should be logically ordered and interesting, it must show why you are interested in this line of study and must demonstrate your ability to take the qualification. A possible structure that you could use is as follows: Current Studies • Degree - how your studies relate to your postgraduate application. This is particularly important if you are applying for study or research that does not seem to obviously follow on from your present course • Subject areas - mention those related to the postgraduate course that show a relevant base of knowledge • Technical skills that you have developed that may relate to your future studies • Related projects that you may have worked on, including group projects, labs and individual projects • Evidence of managing your project - research skills, the application of experimental methodology etc Why this Master’s/PhD? • Show your motivations - what particularly appeals to you about the course or research topic? • Link your plans for future study with your career aspirations • Demonstrate that you are making an informed decision by referring to research that you have done into the course, studies or research area. It is essential to show that you are genuinely motivated to follow this route and have thoroughly thought it through, in order to show that you will not drop out when the going gets tough Past Work Experience • An opportunity to demonstrate that you are able to adapt and ‘fit in’ to a range of environments and experiences • Mention how you were successful, and any achievements that demonstrate your ability to work effectively • Cite relevant skills that may relate to the course or your career aspirations, and achievements, perhaps in challenging situations • If the experience is not directly related to your application then think about showing the transferable skills that you have used and developed Extra-curricular Activities & Interests • You can talk about these to show your personality and demonstrate transferable skills e.g. team-work, ability to take on responsibility, communication, etc. • Think about what to include. Is it interesting and relevant; does it add value to your overall statement? Why this University? • Showing why you have selected this route of study in this particular university/department/group crucially demonstrates motivation and enthusiasm • For postgraduate research applications in particular it is important to show that you have investigated the area in depth. Perhaps mention individual research groups, projects, particular individuals, etc. and link these in with your own research interests and activities • If applying to a university overseas you could state what you will gain and give culturally.
