- Applicants are normally expected to have a minimum of a 2:1 honours degree, or equivalent, in Architecture and at least nine months of post-undergraduate professional practice experience. Applicants will also need to prepare a critical self-appraisal. See 'additional information' below. Architecture with RIBA Part 1 exemption: In exceptional circumstances, applications from students without RIBA Part 1 will be considered subject to prior equivalent academic and practical experience, but the honours degree must be in Architecture due to the prescribed and validated nature of the programme. Evidence of satisfactory completion of at least nine months of practical training is normally required for acceptance on the full-time course. Should applicants have difficulty in accessing conventional practical experience, the Admissions team will consider evidence of initiative in finding alternative experience, through voluntary work, competitions, work in associated fields of the construction and design industries and self-generated work. Where applicants do not hold RIBA Part 1 and complete and pass the ARB prescribed Part 2 qualification, they will still need to hold an ARB prescribed qualification at Part 1 level (plus an ARB prescribed qualification at Part 3 level together with the required period of practical training) before they can be admitted to the ARB Register. If you do not meet all of the essential entry requirements, you will be required to complete a successful interview in order to receive an offer for this course. Applicants will also need to submit a good portfolio . See below for further information on applying as an international student. Please see our international pages for further details of the entry requirements for our courses and information relevant to applicants from your country . IELTS 6.0 overall with no less than 5.5 in each band, or equivalent. See details of accepted qualifications . UK / EU students are required to submit a personal statement as part of their application for this course.* You should prepare a written document of 2-4 pages that shine s a light on your personal experience, academic success, personal skills and any other factors that will support your application for further study. You will also find the personal statement useful as preparation for an interview should you be requested to attend. This document should not just focus on your strengths, but be a reflective piece that shows us you are able to critically appraise your own work and your performance. Here are the key areas you’ll need to address: Studying a postgraduate course usually means you want to specialise in something. So what’s driving you and how would you critically reflect on your undergraduate study ? Outline and your architectural career so far and where you feel your strengths and weaknesses lie. You should also discuss the areas of architecture that you are interested in and a critical analysis of your portfolio. You may also find it useful to reflect on your skills development through your undergraduate and subsequent practice experience. Show that you’ve researched the course offering. What is it about this particular course that appeals to you? Is it the lecturers? The modules? The course structure, previous studios, student work , exhibitions or publications? Tutors want to know that you can handle postgraduate study, so show them how your undergraduate experiences or work life has equipped you for a more advanced level of study. Key areas to address are research and group work but this can vary depending on your chosen course. We are particularly interested in how you reflect on your organisation and time management, how you are able to priorities your time and tasks both as a student and during your work in practice. We would also like to know about your experience in collaborating with others and working as part of a team. Provide a summary of your education to date and your work experience. This should focus on your post undergraduate practical experience outlining the roles, responsibilities and projects you have been involved with along with how you contributed to your working environment. Add anything relevant that relates back to your chosen course and shows how your skills will contribute towards your learning. What extra-curricular activities have you taken part in? What awards have you won? What employment or voluntary experience do you have that has helped you develop transferable skills? How do these specifically relate to the course you are applying for? You should also mention your future plans and how a postgraduate qualification fits in. Try to look beyond your postgraduate study – do you plan to jump straight into a specific career or follow your studies with a research degree? Lastly, use plain, professional English and, where possible, utilise the language of your chosen industry. Get more information on writing personal statements . Should you be invited to attend an interview you will be expected to demonstrate a diverse d esign and technical portfolio with undergraduate, professional and other supporting work. You will also be expected to bring your personal statement/critical self appraisal and use these documents to answer a series of reflective questions about your motivation for study, your skill s development, collaborative experience and your self organisational ability, all of which are essential requisites of an MArch Architecture student. *Non-EU students are not required to submit a personal statement when applying for this course. If you have a qualification that is not listed, please contact us . IELTS 总分及官网所列 each band / sub-score 小分。

- STRUCTURE Your personal statement should be logically ordered and interesting, it must show why you are interested in this line of study and must demonstrate your ability to take the qualification. A possible structure that you could use is as follows: Current Studies • Degree - how your studies relate to your postgraduate application. This is particularly important if you are applying for study or research that does not seem to obviously follow on from your present course • Subject areas - mention those related to the postgraduate course that show a relevant base of knowledge • Technical skills that you have developed that may relate to your future studies • Related projects that you may have worked on, including group projects, labs and individual projects • Evidence of managing your project - research skills, the application of experimental methodology etc Why this Master’s/PhD? • Show your motivations - what particularly appeals to you about the course or research topic? • Link your plans for future study with your career aspirations • Demonstrate that you are making an informed decision by referring to research that you have done into the course, studies or research area. It is essential to show that you are genuinely motivated to follow this route and have thoroughly thought it through, in order to show that you will not drop out when the going gets tough Past Work Experience • An opportunity to demonstrate that you are able to adapt and ‘fit in’ to a range of environments and experiences • Mention how you were successful, and any achievements that demonstrate your ability to work effectively • Cite relevant skills that may relate to the course or your career aspirations, and achievements, perhaps in challenging situations • If the experience is not directly related to your application then think about showing the transferable skills that you have used and developed Extra-curricular Activities & Interests • You can talk about these to show your personality and demonstrate transferable skills e.g. team-work, ability to take on responsibility, communication, etc. • Think about what to include. Is it interesting and relevant; does it add value to your overall statement? Why this University? • Showing why you have selected this route of study in this particular university/department/group crucially demonstrates motivation and enthusiasm • For postgraduate research applications in particular it is important to show that you have investigated the area in depth. Perhaps mention individual research groups, projects, particular individuals, etc. and link these in with your own research interests and activities • If applying to a university overseas you could state what you will gain and give culturally.
